Veganality
So I just announced that I possibly, maybe, might, potentially consider going either vegetarian of vegan.
Not more than five minutes later my best friend Bridie is on the phone.
“RICK, MY FAMILY WILL HATE YOU. You cannot go vegan. And what about your mum, what would she say?”
It’s true, I suggested. Having a homo son she can live with, but one that has forsaken meat itself? And dairy and eggs? Not acceptable. No meat-eating bloody way. Get out of my house, she would scream as I pack my possession and she lobs chicken wings at me.
“Look, I just don’t think I’m ready to come out as a vegan yet Bridie. I’ll have to go to all the alternative vegan clubs in the city and get my fix on weekends and just pretend to be a meat-eater in public during the week.”
And then we had a big chat about why eschewing meat and animal products from your diet is a lot like being gay.

You know, I’m really not much of a pusher for veganism (I prefer to push hardcore drugs to children)… but I could potentially win you over with delicious food. Really, eating a vegan diet makes me feel like I have super powers.
